A Dream Fulfilled, A User Goes Inactive

I've been on Newsvine for about four months now, and I think I've sent out my roots in the community. I've written a couple of articles that have done pretty well, and commented on a lot of stories. I thought I should tell the community that I might be inactive for at least a little while.

Why? Because I got accepted into pretty much the best school in Illinois; the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. A magnet residential school that is technically a publicly funded school, but students can only attend once they've applied and been accepted. It is a high school, but starts in sophomore year. It accepts 200 students a year, so I'm really happy that I got in.

Now, even though this year they'll be setting up in-room networking (Internet in your dorm room), I'm not sure how much work I'll be getting. So while I'm still settling into life at IMSA, I'll probably lurk more than anything. I might comment here and there, but I won't be super-mega-always-on-man.

And so, in case anyone wonders, that's where I've gone. Racking my brains and studying hard. Move-in day is in exactly one week. It's been a great summer with you guys.

Interestingly enough, this has been my first article pre-written on Writely. Invites are availiable once I figure out how.

From my experience with high school, there is never as much work as they try tell you.

Regardless, good luck on this new chapter in your life.

From my experience with high school, there is never as much work as they try tell you.

I could totally start a two hour rant on how at every stage in my schoolwork they told me i'd have hours of work and then I had minutes.

However, I am inclined to believe IMSA due to 1) their teaching philosphy 2) First-hand student accounts.

Although, I may just be that fast with work that no matter what students tell me I'll do it faster?

Regardless, good luck on this new chapter in your life.

Thank you :)

It's no suprise to me that a 'Computer Extraordinaire' blazes though its homework. :)

Have fun. For a budding genius like you, I'd suggest the writings of Paul Graham, who talks about how smart folks like you ought to use their time while in high school / college. Build us the next google.

First, let me say this has nothing to do with Ilyanep's hiatus. I appologize for going off topic, but I just wanted to thank Trevor for linking Paul Graham's site. I'd never heard of the guy before (though I'd heard of Lisp) and after reading a couple of his essays, I think this guy is a genius. Thank you!

Congratulations and good luck. Hope you'll be rejoining us soon - as long as it doesn't interfere with your schoolwork (maybe on breaks?).

    Good luck.

You're moving in to your school two days before me to mine.

However, we redneck North Carolinians already have in-room Wi-Fi. Take that, Yankees. ;-)

Haha. Well they have Wi-Fi set up for in-room and on-campus as well [it's new this year, I believe], but it might take a while to get the actual accounts set up.

I might get mine earlier than most sophomores if they let me do CNS [Computing and Network Services] workservice, cause I have to set up my own IRN before anyone else's :D

Good luck at your new school, as well.

Ilyanep, congratulations, good luck and we will be seeing you. You are quite a guy for 14 or maybe 15 now. Keep doing what you have been doing. Involve yourself. A visit to Newsvine once in a while shouldn't be that hard. I have a feeling that study may be something you don't need a lot of. Thank you for being here.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I'll be turning 15 in October. And I'm sure I'll be able to come on here once in a while. Since I'll be learning a lot, I can contribute to this new vinopedia tag :)

Boarding school! I'm impressed, Ilyanep. I really hope you do well there, pursuing your dreams for your future. Mathematics and science - imagine that. Thanks for showing your face here for a few months. I hope you find not only the education you want at the academy, but also the mentorship you are looking for. Hopefully they have some internship programs as well where they encourage you to get out into the real world occassionally.
