Although the question of whether multi-touch technology is ready for the desktop is an important one, there's also the issue of what multi-touch will be used for in the future. It's entirely possible that multi-touch on the iPhone is acting as a trial balloon for a larger inclusion of the technology in Apple products, possibly beginning with the MacBook later this Fall. And while it's always difficult to get inside the mind of Steve Jobs, a recently published patent application for a multi-touch dictionary suggests multi-touch is more than just a one-trick (or one-product) pony.
